Matthew L. Hoppock

Mr. Hoppock is an Associate Attorney and joined the firm in 2008. He works in our Kansas City office focusing on litigation and federal appeals, as well as immigration court defense, family-based and employment-based visas and naturalization.

Education and Experience

Mr. Hoppock earned his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2008. He served as Senior Staff Articles Editor with the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy from 2007-2008. He earned his B.A. in philosophy from Kansas State University in 2005. Matthew has spoken on various immigration topics, including CLEs on asylum law, VAWA and U Visas.

Published Decisions

Marin-Rodriguez v. Holder, 612 F.3d 591 (7th Cir. 2010). Successfuly appealed "departure bar" issue to the Seventh Circuit and won reversal, leading to the Seventh Circuit's rejection of government's ban on motions to reopen and reconsider immigration cases once the immigrant has departed the country.

Gatimi v. Holder, 578 F.3d 611 (7th Cir. 2009). Successfully appealed denial of asylum for former member of a religious group in Kenya.
